Turgutreis

Hi everybody. I'm so busy nowadays therefore I can only write about two places in summer. Because of my , need hardworking summer job. Don't ask about my job it is on a desert between Konya and Niğde it's name "emen". Job is about agriculture in desert. I wish god never destine any people in Earth like my hot(temperature is about 45-48 at noon, I'm not joking) job.

Today in that burning summer day I'll tell you about "Turgutreis". "Turgutreis" name is coming from Ottomans's very mighty, talented sea pirate and sea commander. He known to the west with his siege of Malta with his big navy. Also west people called him "Dragut".  Perhaps you have heard about that place in Bodrum. Bodrum's second big region after it's city center. İt take part in Bodrum's edge region. Let's show you in map. As you seen it takes part at  the end of peninsula. For this reason region takes a lot of wind because it is open to Mediterranean sea. Turgutreis is 18km away from Bodrum's center. Because of it's long distance to city center and high mountains behind province didn't let region to develop for too many years. After transportation conditions developed was starting growing and today it is very peaceful and  highly entertaining place for domestic and foreign visitors and tourists.

Turgutreis's best places are Akyarlar, Fenerburnu, Karancir beach, Aspat, Kadıkalesi and Bağla. That spots are really suitable for making wind surfing and paragliding as you known it's windy whether provides that. Also that little stong wind make whether usually cooler than other part of Bodrum. That is a great thing for summer season because  everywhere is through hot in Turkey. The islands near coast is like  a paradise for sailing and tripping. There are 14 small-big islands in there like "Çatal", "Sporak group". Also very big greek settlement "Kos island" is to close Turgutreis. Boat tripping is very famous and essential activity in Bodrum.

Don't forget to see D-Marin. D-Marin is normally very big marina but you can also find too many luxury restaurants and shopping places. At nights there are too many enjoying entertaining activities like concerts, cultural stands or live music. Of course fun is not only in D-Marin when you arrive bazaar you can find a lot of 24 hour opened bars and clubs. See you later with another paradise viewing.

Fethi Paşa Grove

entrance of grove
Fethi Paşa grove is one of the hilarious place for oxygen amount and green colour. You can see various kinds of green plants, trees in there. You can already see when you visit it already. Grove taken it's name from a governor Fethi Ahmet Paşa who was a governor, ambassador and authorized person at the term of second Mahmut and first Abdulhamit(sultans of Ottoman Empire). After Fethi Paşa dead, grove shared to it's heirs in 1958. At that date lawyer Şevket Mocan transferred his share to municipality of Üsküdar. After that grove called Macon grove for a while. Lately  municipality expropriated the other shares and then 2 pavilion restored from government in 2003 then it opened 2 social facility for people,  today it is called Fethi Paşa grove and it is giving service to all kind of people.

more beautiful in nights
Grove provides people to run in fresh air and avoids from boring, high stressed city life. There are a few restaurant and cafe in there and despite of this place's beauties, elegant structure and luxury it is very cheap ; when I first visited there I am very surprised, then  I realized after it is  cheap because government provides service and therefore it doesn't expecting economical benefit. As I said at the beginning there are too many kind of plants.Because of this this spot seeing like a botanic garden from people. Most common tree types are: kermes oak, laurel, mastic tree, Judas-tree, linden. Also there are too many pine tree kinds on the ridges of grove.(horse chestnut, oak, Japanese velvet, ash, green viburnum, akdut, persimmon, black locust) Anyway the Judas tree's historical story is interesting; Byzantium Christians see holy  this tree for that reason they give more importance to plant that and they also organized some celebration for it's holiness therefore Judas tree reach from there to now with that interesting religious belief.

views that I mentioned

Briefly it is worth to visit there and Fethi Paşa grove is best place for relaxing against wonderful Bosphorus view. I advice you try to see that view from the top of grove. There are some parts which is suitable for that activity. Today that is that from me see you another day!

Akdamar Church

it is been in Akdamar island
In historical place Akdamar Church built after an order that is coming from King 1. Gagig. Reason of that is hiding the genuine cross. That cross is taken from Jerusalem to Persian, then it is stolen from Persia's finally it placed to Van. Church is built with an order of king by architect Manuel in the years of  915-921. İt is built south side of island, that historical structure is count of the best architectural wonder of middle age Armenian art. It's aspect is embellished by animal, plant figures and events that taken from holy book. Because of these features church is count most unique structure for Armenians.

There are a few historical structures near this church like to the northeast: chapel, to the east: Jamadun and to the north: belfry. Anyway in the west of country government decided to demolish that kind of Armenian structures in 1951. At that days of 1951 government decided to demolish Akdamar Church, at the last moment Turkey's  big author Yaşar Kemal caught up and stopped demolish. After that  the church restored  from Turkish government by paying 1.5 million dollar to provide relationship with Armenian people in Turkey and Armenian country(near border) despite of it relationship isn't very good Today. Whereas Turkey didn't settle with only that.(restored more from that)

look you can see figures that I mentioned

In 29 March 2007 with the participation of culture minister of Turkey and Armenian culture minister (Ertuğrul Günay:the Turkish one) Church turned museum. After restorations Armenians make a ritual in Akdamar with management of archbishop Aram Ateşyan. This ritual made in same place before 95 years. After  an earthquake of Van(23 October 2011) church damaged a little. Briefly this historical building is really  important for two governments relationship and also it is not only Armenian heritage it is heritage for all world. See you later with another different place.

I know Van is wonderful place to see natural wonders

Bodrum Castle

Bodrum Castle is becoming a symbol of Bodrum nowadays and has a very deep historical tissue. Bodrum castle is firstly built by St jean knights. They are Knights of Rhodes island and they saw necessity of Castle which is close to the main land at that terms.  German knight-architect Heinrich Schlegelholt design the main structures of castle. Also this papal decree promises heaven to construction workers. Castle's first wall completed in 1437 but Spanish knights also re-construct it with Gothic style anyway. İt's size is 180 meter wide and 180 meter height.

In main Castle there are towers that called with different country name. The highest tower is French tower that has an altitude of 47 meter. And the other's are German Tower, English Tower, Yılanlı Tower, Italian Tower. Because of lion reliefs English Tower also called lion tower. After siege of Ottoman(1453) second Mehmet(Fatih) attacked castle in 1480 but he couldn't succeed anyway they repelled attack with knights. In 1982 Cem Sultan Sought refuge castle after his failure  against his brother second bayezit. You know Ottoman sultans has too painful throne struggle term. Castle walls thickened from authorized. Anyway it wasn't enough to repelled Sultan suleyman's Rhodes attack and Castle changed all. Remaining of mausoleums all removed from orders of ottoman and chapel changed into mosque and ottoman cultural issue settled after that. The mosque called "Süleymaniye" by Evliya çelebi. The minaret pillaged after it is built until now(in world war one) anyway it is restored in 1997.

In the history Castle used for too many different reasons. Like mosque, prison, defending castle, bath, etc... Near all of them British ambassador had a really curious of twelve reliefs that carries issues from Greeks and what a chance that reliefs all removed from British museum authorized member.

Castle Today is using as a underwater archeology museum. Turkish  bath, Amphora exhibition, east roman ship, glass room, Karyalı princess room, glass shipwreck room, coins and Jewelry shop are all exhibited in English tower and torture and massacre rooms are exhibited in German tower. Briefly this historical place is essential area for visiting. Today is this from me see you later:)

Sumela Monastery

as if everything made by rocks
Sumela monastery is existed in Trabzon province and Maçka district and Altındere village. İt settled on the side of "Mela" hill and it is a church and monastery that has a altitude of 1150 meters. Beside all of these that place is very important for religious tourism and existed higher than 300 meter more altitude from valley, carries attributes of being monastery. You know monasteries are far away from people and world's beauties. Because they are believing their souls "be educated" by suffering all pain and while they don't listen their egos voice . This is coming from very old societies. Anyway with this architecture monastery building carries it's old tradition that settled beside of abandoned places like forests, caves or near water which no human existing.

We are thinking Orthodox church built it in 375-395 after Christ. According to the rumor this monastery  built by two priest and that two priest saw same dreams; that dreams showed same place there fore two priest met with unconsciously and built that monastery. Their names are "Barnabas" and "Sophronios" and maybe you heard Barnabas is really popular and his name "Barnabas" given to a one of bibles. Barnabas bible maybe coming from there.İf you ask where "Sümela" name is coming actually there is two story for that one of tells in Greek language "sümela"  word is defining "colour of black" meaning and that black word is coming from  mountain or hill that Monastery existed. That mountain name in Turkish is "Karadağlar". And that Monastery or church is named "meryem ana" from natives of area that word means "Virgin Mary"

full size of monastery

İf you visit that historical heritage you must pass from deep forest that takes more than 1 hour to arrive monastery  and some of old people are choked up because they cannot climb that hill. Some of native rumours tells that there is big  treasuries which existed in main rock church side and termly president of Turkey İsmet İnönü sent it to museum in Athens. Turks in country don't look pleasant to this situation.

Anyway monastery has some different sides. First of them the main rock Church and secondly two chapel( a place that customized for two saint) in big church and thirdly "ayazma" ( a spring which native rums see it holy),

service units, rooms of monk and student and finally guesthouse. That parts of monastery is decorated and covered by fresks that processed of bible events. Briefly that historical heritage is valuable for seeing for me. I think if you wondered that religious structures like churches and monasteries. See you later in another exiting and enjoying trip.

Bakırköy Freedom(özgürlük) Square

bakırköy square
This square is situated in "Bakırköy" district and merging point of some really important streets like İncirli street and Eso buziyya Street. It witnessed a lot of important political and social movements and events like demonstrations. This because there are too many people living in that side of İstanbul(south aspect f city). Prices in that side of city is less than north sides , "old istanbul" or Bosphorus coasts because that part of city got populate lately. I mean it settled recently and become accustomed nowadays. But don't misunderstand this place is as historical as I introduced you before but I mean it settled by population way.

look at birds
This place is surrounded by town hall, Bakırköy graveyard and Bakırköy metro station. This square name is also changed by "freedom"(özgürlük) to "repuplic"(cumhuriyet) square in 2002. Anyway this name isn't used so much because Turkish people is a little conservative in everywhere but this conservation is coming from very old Turkish tradition that contains protect their culture and customs therefore it is coming to 20th century and they feel they cannot give up from from old. Also there are other reasons to explain that "conservative behaviour" in Turkish people like religious activities. Although this personal characteristic behaviour not too bad for this people because this conservation supposes to protect their language, culture, flag and their unity. They are living all together better with that way.

Especially there are a few tremendous malls and shopping centers like "CapaCity, Carousel, Galleria and Town center. This shopping buildings provides to attract consumer and that makes the are high density.
Briefly this spot is reliable for shopping and visiting. I suggest you dear our readers. See you later with another special place in Turkey!

Beyazıt Square

Beyazıt square is on the center of the old İstanbul borders and at byzantium terms it is the biggest square of city. Maybe you wondering what is the term of "old İstanbul" İstanbul city is conquered by Second Mehmet(Fatih Sultan Mehmet) and while his siege is continuing İstanbul city is covered by it's own highly tremendous walls that built by Byzantium. I noticed the borders that covered by that enormous walls. Also they became the "old İstanbul" borders. Beyazıt square isn't only the center of old city it is also center of transportation center. Although it is very important strategic point however it isn't really important today. You can say why? Because İstanbul is extremely big city and it is developing day by day. For that reason it isn't stay static it is changing everyday and justifiably this cities face is changing every moment rightly. From that reasons which I count , the centers of city isn't static it is also changing and today beyazıt square is only a spot which near of important historical places.

Let's we  look at that historical places. First of all İstanbul University is the most significant spot of square
because it has elegant and tremendous entrance door(you can see it from a picture of the side). It is too old structure and also  students of university doesn't use that door; because it is too hard to use it. There is a historical mosque side of square called Beyazıd mosque which is built by the ottoman Empire Second Bayezıd.This Beyazıd mosque is one of the elegant and graceful structures of city.

The grand bazaar side of square is contains traditional effects and
selling too many regional things like old ottoman culture objects (rosary, old rugs, turbans...etc) There is a reliable reason about why traditional subjects and things is so foreground. That is because at the beginning of the essay I told you this place is the center of old İstanbul and old İstanbul is exposed too many conservative attempt from ottoman after qonquest. In time that attemptions made area the center of religious activities.

Hasan Paşa inn and Seyyid Hasan Paşa complex area is also historical and cultural spots of area you should visit there if you road pass from there. Maybe your mind have little confusion about the term of "complex area" İt is called "külliye" in turkish and means that a place that contains library, inn, bath, tomb or etc. together. The Beyazıt square changed it's name  before with freedom square because of demonstrations.

I guess I helped you about introducing Beyazıt square. I guaranteed this place is valuable for tripping because of it's cultural tissue and historical ambiance. see you in other trip take care of you:)
